Angelina Jolie has praised acclaimed photographer Giles Duley after he received the 2025 Tipperary International Peace Award

Angelina Jolie has praised acclaimed photographer Giles Duley after he received the 2025 Tipperary International Peace Award.

The award acknowledged his long-standing commitment to revealing the human cost of war and assisting conflict-affected communities in their recovery, with a particular focus on Ukraine.

Giles Duley is a photographer who lost both legs and his left arm in 2011 after stepping on a landmine in Afghanistan. Despite his severe injuries, he returned to his profession after a lengthy rehabilitation and has spent more than a decade documenting the impact of armed conflicts in countries around the world.

Giles recently exhibited The Things They Carried at the Atelier — a series that begins with Objets d’Mort, in which he draws on his early training as a fashion photographer to portray bombs, landmines, and grenades as glossy, seductive still-life images. The works span decades of conflict, from the first air-dropped bomb used during World War I to cluster munitions deployed in Vietnam and grenades adapted for drone warfare in Ukraine today.
