She told Vogue, “I chose not to copy [Maria’s] looks because they are hers, and her Venice carpets were stunning, so I gave a little nod to her—in a different way. You can imagine how special it was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers.”

The event will take place at Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Sunday, September 8.

TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey announced on Tuesday, “Angelina Jolie is a multifaceted talent who has entertained audiences for decades while consistently using her platform to champion important causes. We’re honoured to present her with the 2024 TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media".

Angelina Jolie played opera singer Maria in Maria Callas Biopic. She spent six months training to act as Maria, which included singing.

For singing, she worked with Oscar winner John Warhurst. Director Larraín told Vanity Fair, "How can you make a movie about Maria Callas without using her voice? You can’t. [But] you can’t make a movie like this with an actress that is not actually singing it."

He added of Jolie, "This is the real thing — it was very scary for her, but she did it."

"You always listen to Angelina and you always listen to Maria Callas,” Larraín said. “When we listen to Maria Callas in her prime, most of the sound is Callas — 90 percent, 95 percent — and when we listen to Callas older and in the present, almost all of it is Angelina."

Larraín gushes Angelina, saying, "This is the greatest diva of the 20th century, and who could play that?. I didn’t want to work with someone that didn’t have that already. I needed an actress who would naturally and organically be that diva, carry that weight, be that presence. Angelina was there."
